Inspired by the story of “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

He came down to earth from an asteroid,
A little chunk of rock had carried him across a vast, vast void,
He dodged a black hole or two,
Danced on stars,
Stopped at Mars,
Checked out some planets in the Milky Way.
He’d read about a place called Earth in the lonely planet guide,
With volcanoes and seas ,
Molten rock inside,
Birds and bees and sheep
And human beings,
An interesting species
Thought he’d drop in while he was in the area
Take a peep.

He landed in a puff of dust
In the desert,
The earth was the colour of rust,
The sun was setting.
All that he could see
Was earth and sky to the horizon,
Through the dazzling golden light
It was truly Mesmerising.

The little prince,
Sweet little guy,
In a cloak of blue , hair of gold
Fell out of the sky
The little prince
So youthful yet so wise,
He was a messenger from on high,
Dropped out of the sky.
His eyes twinkled,
HIs laughter tinkled,
Like fairy dust it sprinkled joy
Across the vast void.
Echoing, singing,
Music ringing,
Across the desert,
Of loneliness,
On planet Earth.

A man appeared ,
With a stubble for a beard ,
He was hot, thirsty, tired, alone,
His life was in danger
His water was low,
He was lost,
He was far from home,
Where was that?
Who was this stranger ?

When he saw the little prince he was shocked,
Was he a delusion ?
An illusion?
The man was in a state of confusion,
Could this really be a companion
In the middle of the desert?
Magic!
He had been lost,
Had he been found?
He called himself a pilot,
His plane had got sick,
Came down in the desert
and needed to be fixed.

The little prince taught him
How to draw a sheep,
How to tame a fox that’s wild,
How to see things like a boy,
How to find his inner child.

The man realised
He had been squashed and squished in to a mould,
To conform to the norm of adulthood,
He‘d learnt to tow the line,
Be politically correct ,
His imagination was in a state of neglect.
His inner child had gone missing
In the desert of life
And needed to be found..

The little prince
Sweet little guy,
In a cloak of blue, hair of gold,
Fell out of the sky,
The Little Prince,
So youthful yet so wise ,
A messenger from on high,
Dropped out of the sky

His eyes twinkled,
HIs laughter tinkled,
Like fairy dust it sprinkled joy
across the vast void.
Echoing, singing,
Music ringing,
Across the desert,
Of loneliness of planet earth.

Help me find my inner child,
Help me be true to my inner child,
Don’t ever let me lose myself again,
I see the sunset,
I see my star,
I hear my laughter,
I’m home!
